However, there were occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would pine for fellowship. On one such day out here of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy conceived a naughty plot.
Stories of wolves hunting on sheep had long been circulating in the town. So, the boy opted to exploit this fear and played a prank on the villagers.
One afternoon he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf attacking my sheep!” The scared villagers ran up the hills to offer assistance but discovered no beast.
The boy laughed at the confusion on their faces. This game persisted for a couple of more days. Yet, one noon, a real wolf did attack the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy dashed for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.
